Norður Salt

NORÐUR SALT // 2014

Norður Salt uses a unique old geothermal production method to make sea salt flakes, first tried in 1753 in Iceland but forgotten for centuries.

The savoury and mystical Arctic Sea water is pumped into open pans where it is slowly heated with water from natural hot springs. This sustainable process leaves behind no pollution or greenhouse gases – only fresh, pure and crunchy sea salt flakes.

Taken from northern sea mythology, an Icelandic mermaid is chosen to represent the ocean’s magical transformation into salt crystals, irradiating pureness and freshness.

As an environmentally conscious brand, our solution involved creating a glue-free packaging. To make it more user friendly we incorporated a unique folding method, making the front panel of the box open towards you for easier access to the sea salt flakes.
